Make 2008 the year you do it!
For many people, the pressure of
today's business life leaves little time for recreation. There's no time to
take time out and relax - it's all work and no play and, as we all know,
this makes Jack (or Mike, or Jim, or Peter) a dull boy.
So what's the solution? Very often, relaxation after a day's work takes the
form of falling asleep in front of the TV. Hardly the way to relax, really,
as by the time one has woken up it's time to go to bed and then it's time to
get up for work . . . so the vicious circle perpetuates itself.
There is an alternative.
It's a simple and effective way to enjoy a couple of hours a week actually
achieving something useful and rewarding. It stimulates the mind and it
involves using a certain amount of social skills. There's good fellowship to
be enjoyed, and the fun of working as a team to produce a worthwhile
end-result.
What's the secret . . . ?

Singing!
The Royal Tunbridge Wells Orpheus Male Voice Choir needs new members to join
its ranks. Since 1938 the Choir has provided audiences at home and further
afield with top-quality choral entertainment and now you can be a part of
it. If you can read music, great - that's a bonus for us. If you have a good
ear for music and can hold a tune, we will take you under our choral wing
and make a singer out of you.
If you have the willingness to work hard and learn your part and then work
as a team member in one of the Choir's four voice sections (First Tenor,
Second Tenor, Baritone, and Bass) you will find yourself really enjoying
making music with a bunch of like-minded men. At present we are about
34-strong - but we need more voices!
It won't cost you the earth, either. There's an annual subscription which is
currently £30.00 and you will be required to make a one-off payment of
£30.00 towards your stage uniform . . . and that's it.
We perform perhaps half a dozen concerts a year in the local area - it
depends on how much in demand we are - and the quality of the music is good
as we have an excellent Musical Director in the persona of Richard Walshaw.
The range of music is very broad: popular songs, folk songs, Welsh hymns,
spirituals . . . all kinds of music to suit all tastes. Venues at which the
Choir has performed include London's Albert Hall and Guild Hall, Cardiff
Arms Park, Chatham's St George's Centre, Rochester Cathedral, and the Savoy
Hotel, London.
It's a known fact that singing, like laughing, is therapeutic and with the
Orpheus you'll have both laughter and song in varying proportions as we're
all very easy to get on with and would welcome your presence. We rehearse
each Thursday evening between 7.30 - 9.30 p.m. at St Peter's Church Hall in
Bayhall Road, Tunbridge Wells.
